Fishing the Bow River, May 2018
I had the privilege this past weekend to go on a guided trip with Mike Robertson (The trout slayer, bowriverblog). I had searched for a guided trip and found lots out there, but most were for fly fishing. I was excited to find that Mike caters to the spin-cast fisher, as I don’t fly fish.
Mike took the time before we launched to show us the gear he uses, what the plan for the day was and asked what we were expecting. Since I haven’t had much luck fishing rivers, I let Mike know I was hoping to learn how to read the river, what to use at different times of the year and times of the day to fish. Mike answered all my questions and gave tips on how to cast properly and what to look for.
After trying a few spots, Mike got us on the fish! We caught a few fish from the boat then stopped for an awesome lunch. Mike showed us some shore fishing techniques for about 45 minutes then back on the boat. We caught some more fish in the afternoon and called it a day around 3:45.
It was by far the best fishing experience I have ever had. Mike is very passionate about what he does and is very professional about helping out his clients. I would highly recommend Mike to anyone who is looking for a fun day out on the water catching big fish and having a great fishing experience.
Thanks for the great day.
