Fishy February and fun in the sun

Spin fishing the Bow River for Brown and Rainbow Trout

It is always a blessing when one can pick up their fishing gear and head to the river in February. Normally it’s freezing cold and not fit to fish in February here in Calgary, Alberta. This year was an entirely different story, however. With plus degree temperatures, and chinook weather, us anglers here were able to take full advantage of great weather and fish up a storm! Several days I got off work early, then heading straight to the river. I was blessed to get some amazing, high quality fish that were hungry for my Rapala crankbaits and Live Target lures.

Normally, when the water is cold and the fish are lethargic, using a slow retrieve combined with pausing the lure will let the fish catch your bait, putting more fish in the net. The fish are super hungry at this time of year, as the supply of baitfish is low, so using big lures will normally land you big fish.

Remember to always have strong, sharp hooks on your lures combined with fresh line on your reels. You never want that monster trophy to get away.

Hope you are all having an amazing February wherever you are fishing.
