Ice Fishing Hot Spots

Ice Fishing Hot Spots.

Here is another Walleye fishery that I love to fish not only in the summer but in the winter as well. This place is Crawling Valley Reservoir. This excellent fishery is located 90 minutes east of Calgary and 10 minutes north of Bassano. There are many spots to fish here with some of my favorites spots being near the inlet canal, just off the island in the middle of the reservoir and on the south east corner of the reservoir. It’s hard to not catch fish here with some real sizeable Walleye being caught. Not only is the Walleye fishing good here, the Burbot and Pike fishing can be equally as good.

    Great site,
My friends and I want to go ice fishing in BC someplace with log cabins for overnight stay.
We like a mom and pop run operation rather than a commercial lodge.
Can you recommend couple of spots?
    Thanks,
    Amigo

Hello Amigo, thanks for your question and thank you for reading the Bow River Blog. There are so many great ice fishing locations it would take me a whole article to reply to your question, however I found a great website for you to look over and it has many great spots you can ice fish for trout if that is your species of choice. Here is the link http://www.britishcolumbia.com/fishing/?id=19 Copy it and paste it into your web browser and you will be on your way.

One last piece of info for lodging, last summer I stayed at a cabin in the small town of Coleman which is only 30 Minutes from the B.C. border. It’s called Cozy Nest Cabin’s and it is in fact a “Mom and Pop” style cabin. Thanks for your question and I hope you have a great trip ice fishing in B.C.

Thanks for the great info Mike.

Regarding, Cozy Nest Cabins, do you have any contact info?, a web search does not yield any info.

    Happy fishing,
    Amigo

Hey Amigo, as a matter of fact I do have their info. Here is the number you can contact them at, their address is Box 670 Coleman, Alberta. Just west of the Crowsnest Lake. Phone # is 1-403-563-5155. It is right on highwat #3 on the right side of the highway heading westbound.

A friendly warning Amigo, the old man is not the nicest person I have ever shaken hands with so take him with a grain of salt as I say. I hope that help’s your cause. If you want to talk fishing this is the place to do it so feel free to ask anything at any time.

May the next world record be on the end of your line.

Hey Cody, Bow River is awesome when the water is clean and free of floating ice. Pick a warm day and hammer those monster trouts.

    Thanks for your question.

Well I usually fish for Bass here, but seems like Pike and Trout are the main species out there. I havent done much Trout fishing but would like to get into it. Ive never tried fly fishing, but it may be something I’m willing to try. As for Pike..I love a good fought catch!

Any advice would be a great help!

Hello again Ottcan, a great place for Pike and Walleye close to Calgary is either Mcgregor Lake, see this link for maps and info http://www.albertaparks.ca/siteinformation.aspx?id=95 or Crawling Valley Reservoir. Both hold great sized Pike and Walleye.

If you want to fish trout through the ice, then there are Upper Kananaskis Lake or the Lower Kananaskis Lake. The upper lake holds some rainbows while the lower lake has predominantly Bull Trout. Spray Lakes in Canmore has some great ice fishing for Lake Trout as well. If you need any more info or any other places to fish then feel free to contact me and I will provide you with more info.

    Thanks,

    ~Mike.
