Tackle – Panther Martin

My all-time favorite Panther for either Rainbow’s or Brown’s has to be the solid silver with blue slashes and red dots on the spinner blade PMR-S. When I’m floating the Bow and bottom bouncing, I prefer to use a # 9 spinner as these lures have the proper weight to make them spin properly. I’ve used the # 6 sized spinner, and I find these spinners to be too small or rather, they do not have enough weight to make them spin properly. Another awesome color scheme is the yellow and red dotted body, with the silver spinner blade the PMR- SYR. These lures are what Panther Martin calls, the Classic Trout Series. When I describe these lures I will list the ordering information as well to make it a lot easier for you when you go to your local tackle shop. The next on my list is what’s referred to as the silver and orange with fly, or PMF- SO. This lure is all silver with an orange skirt or what Panther calls a fly.

Tackle – Panther Martin

The next Panther Martin I love to use, and is always in my tackle box, is the Salamander spinner blade, with the black with red dotted body. PMR-SAL-G. This lure works unbelievable for big Brown Trout. Last year, 2005, I pulled in my biggest Brown with this lure, the only downer of the trip was I left my camera at home so now all I get to tell my buddies is fish stories. The Brown was around 5-7 pounds and was measured at 28 inches. Another one of my favorite Panthers is what they call the Zebra pattern or PMR- ZRY. This spinner consistently lands me huge trout on the Bow River, weather it is Big Browns or large Rainbows, it works for both species. And last but not least is the Wild Brock spinner PM-WB. Try using this spinner on your next outing, I think you will catch some big Trout. So this is the list of my very favorite Panther Martin Sonic spinners I use most often when floating on the Bow River. When shore fishing however, I tend to use a larger spinner in size and weight ( # 15 ) which enables me to cast farther out into the river, therefore increasing my odds of catching fish that are sitting in the middle of the river system. So when you head out to catch some trout on your next fishing trip on the Bow River, be sure and stop at your tackle shop and stock up on the Panther Martin Spinners.

Fishing Rods and Reels – Part #4

I remember last year when my buddy and I went out fishing on the Bow, we were bottom bouncing Panther Martins when my buddy’s rod bent over so far I thought it was going to break in half. He hooked into a estimated 30 inch Brown trout, we saw the trout come to the surface then he bolted off with all 200 yards of his fishing line and then SNAP. Every fisherman has his own preference on what type of rod he uses rite down to what type of line they use. I don’t have a biased opinion one way or the other, as long as you have fun while you are out there and you’re catching some fish. My preference when it comes to rods is a rod that has some back bone. I like a six foot six inch rod when fishing for trout on the Bow River because it is stiff enough to handle any size fish that I may encounter on my trip. Rods such as the Abu Garcia Work Horse, Berkley ugly stick, and Berkley Gorilla stick, are all good choices when it comes to rods with back bone and are fairly inexpensive rods. If a person so chooses he or she could go with something a little more expensive which would provide more sensitivity, therefore increasing your odds while out on your next fishing excursion.

Fishing Rods and Reels – Part #3

I always and I mean always spool my Pflueger reel with Berkley XT fishing line. When I fish the Bow River, I prefer to use 8 lb Berkley Extra Tough because as I mentioned earlier in this Blog, there are Large Trout that live here. I’ve pretty much used every fishing line that’s on the market and found that I like the XT the best. I’m the type of fisherman who is fussy when it comes to fresh line on my reel, so before I float I usually respool my reel so I have no problems when I am out on the water. Berkley has a few different colors to choose from when you buy your fishing line, low visibility green, clear and a few others you can choose from. I always buy the low visibility green as it seems to match the color of the water I fish on the best. Some of the other fishing line I like to use include Excalibur, and Spider wire.
