Trout Fishing Videos

Here at the Bow River Blog I like to shoot videos of my fishing adventures and share them with my audience to enjoy. A few years back I set up a YouTube account to make that happen. I have shot some decent video footage of the years gone by but after reviewing the quality of the footage; I feel I need to acquire a better video camera. I am currently using a Sony digital camera which has a movie feature built into the camera. The camera is good for still images, after all that is what it was designed for, but for capturing video it is less than adequate. Now its time to dig deep into the pocket book and buy the proper video equipment needed to shoot high quality fishing videos.

I have decided on a Sony camcorder that will run me five hundred Canadian smack-a-roos. I am a believer that you need to spend the money for good quality equipment. This brings me to some more questions that pertain to you, the reader or in this case the viewer. What would you be interested in seeing or learning more about? Do you need to learn to use a crankbait or is a spinner more your preferred method to hook trout. Do you fish from a boat or do you fish from the shoreline.  What I am looking for here is for you to help me help you. You are important to me and I would love to provide you with video tutorials to help you catch more trout.  I would love your input and feedback in regards to this topic. The new camcorder will be working for you. We can all learn together while having a great time outdoors fishing the clear blue waters of Alberta.

I sincerely thank you for your loyal readership and all the wonderful comments and questions over the past two years. Its time now to expand and grow while using the powerful tool called the video camera. I wish all my readers and followers much success fishing wherever you are.

Thank you for your support,

~Mike.

Mike: I’d like to see more from the shore since that’s how I fish the river most of the time. I’d like to hear you describe why you choose the locations where you’re fishing, why you fish with a certain lure and why you cast and retrieve in a certain direction and retrieve speed. Some close up shots of the specific lures you use would be great also, although I understand if you don’t want to give away too many secrets!! It doesn’t matter if its a crankbait or a spinner. I more intereseted in the how and why than with the what. Reading the blog on those topics helps, but seeing the videos is way better.

Hey Chris, first off I had a blast fishing with you this past summer. We caught some awesome trout when we floated together.

Now on to your suggestions, I will get close ups of the lures in the future and describe the how and why of using it. I will do a shoreline series and follow up with a float boat series. Location and the seasons, retrieve speed etcetera is very important as well so educating the viewer on these factors will be addressed.

Thanks for the feedback Chris, the camera will be in my hands tonight and the videos will follow shortly after.

    All the best to you,

    ~Mike.

Hi Mike… I too would also like to see your take on shore fishing. You could show the type of water (ie… a slow corner, shallow straight stretch , a deep channel just off shore in front of you ) and so on. If you could then explain where you believe the fish will be and why. Then show how you’d fish that specific area. I moved to Calgary 2 years ago and reading your articles has taught me to fish the bow. To see and hear where the fish will be in a particular stretch of river would be an invaluable learning tool. Thanks mike and keep up the good work.

Hey Clayton, great feedback. I am glad to hear you are catching more fish as a result of the articles on the Blog. The type of water and structure below is important to one’s success rate.

I will do a few videos on location, where I believe the fish are and the type of water i choose to fish for that time of year. Each season is a little different so I will factor that in as well.

Thanks so much for the input Clayton, I look forward to shooting these videos very soon.

Awesome idea, I really enjoy reading your blog ever since i ran into it a year ago, and now you’re gonna add video footage. Does it get any better? 🙂
Thank you for all your effort, and hurry with some fresh reports 🙂

Thanks for the feedback Sasha and thanks for following the Bow River Blog for over a year. As the Blog grows and matures I wanted your input as to what you want to see/read about. Now I know what the reader is looking for I will give you what you want to see.

Christmas is just around the corner and if you are like me, you will ask for fishing tackle in your stockings. The first video will show the tackle I want for Christmas and when it is nice enough to use it, I will shoot video footage of the lure/lures in action. That way you will know exactly what to buy with that gift certificate you get for Christmas.

Hey Sasha, it’s about to get better !!!!!

Thank you for your comment, I am on it.

Hey – how about a video that shows exactly how damaging treble hooks can be? Oh wait, you seem to have plenty of those already! Too bad you took them off youtube – they were embarrassing, weren’t they?

Just because trebles aren’t illegal, doesn’t mean they aren’t unethical.

One other thing. You should probably leave your religion in the church, when you go fishing, friend. Your god would not smile kindly on your tormenting his/her creatures for entertainment and commercial purposes.

Thanks for your comment Huw. I like to fish with treble hooks as they are neither illegal or unethical. If you have a problem with treble hooks than write the Alberta government and let them know how you feel about it.

Secondly my religion has nothing to do with my trout fishing. Please do not insult me and call me your friend. My God smiles down on me every day and gives me the strength and courage to carry on forward and pray for people like you.

Thanks very much for taking the time out of your busy day and leave a comment on my website. I hope you like the upcoming videos I am going to shoot, treble hooks and all.

Looking forward to seeing you out on the Bow River !!!!!
